What is slitting line?

A slitting line works by cutting a large roll of metal into multiple, narrower rolls. It’s a continuous production process that is very precise. Slitting is a metal manufacturing process wherein a coil of material, such as aluminum or steel, is slit into the lengths and widths specified by the end application.

What is metal slitting line?

In the field of metal processing, every new contract is a new customization challenge. The increasing demand for steel coils with finer width and length parameters ushered in a more powerful era of precision slitting—technical advancements in slitting equipment, software, and tool practices have driven this wave.

Metal slitting or cutting is a metal manufacturing process in which a roll of material (such as aluminum or steel) is cut to a length and width specified by the final application. When the material passes through the machine, the steel coil is moved by an extremely sharp circular blade to cut. In order to make slices, considerable compressive force must be applied-when the pressure exceeds the tensile strength of the material, it will slice. The final product is a long strip of material cut according to the buyer’s specifications.

In the slitting line, the steel slitting machine consists of three main parts-decoiler, slitter and winder. To ensure optimized process quality, each element must be precisely aligned during setup.

How does the slitting line work?

The working principle of the slitting line is to cut a large roll of metal into multiple narrower rolls. This is a very precise continuous production process. In fact, compared to other processes, it is one of the most accurate methods for cutting metal.

Types of Metal Slitting Lines

Generally, in terms of metal material, slitting line can be roughly divided into two types below:

  1. Slitting line for surface sensitive material, including stainless steel, aluminum, copper/brass, grain oriented (GO) and non-grain oriented (NGO), color coated steel/pre-painted steel and etc.
  2. Slitting line for surface non-sensitive material, including hot-rolled steel, cold-rolled steel, carbon steel, galvanized steel, black steel and etc.

In terms of metal material thickness, slitting line can be roughly divided into three types below:

  1. Thin gauge: 0.1-3.0mm
  2. Medium gauge: 3.0-8.0mm
  3. Heavy gauge: 8.0-20mm

In terms of line speed and production capacity, slitting line can be roughly divided into two types below:

  1. Low speed and low production capacity slitting line: small-size steel service centers, building materials/decoration material manufacturers
  2. High speed and high production capacity slitting line: medium/big-size steel service centers, building materials/decoration manufacturers, automotive makers, home appliance makers.

TX is is one of the leading manufacturers of precision slitting lines, our slitter lines are suitable to process materials used and produced in steel mill, metal coil service centres, the automotive and appliance industry, such as stainless steel, aluminium, pre-painted steel, galvanized steel cold rolled steel, hot rolled steel, carbon steel, high tensile steel, electric steel, copper, brass and titanium.
