What is stretch leveling?
Stretch leveling is the process of fully stretching the material beyond the yield point of all the fibers, balancing the internal trapped stress. This activity produces a material that remains flat even after laser cutting, cutting, punching, or subsequent shearing operations. Eliminating stress rebound after cutting makes additional processes such as welding and shaping easier while tempering through is a process of applying a lot of pressure to compress the steel. During leveling, two rolling pins move along the length of the plate/sheet, extruding the internal stress.
